Life for everyone, but moms in particular can get overwhelming. Am I right?! Living life, doing all the things can make you dang tired! Just being honest with you, this is where I’ve been the past few weeks. I haven’t necessarily been doing more than usual, it all just hit me I guess. Well, I’m here to tell you today, sometimes it’s okay to just take a break. It’s something we already know in our heads, but sometimes we need the permission to do it. So, here I am, giving you permission. Mama, take a break!
But I should be…
It’s so easy to think of all the things we “should be doing”. And honestly, I’m not sure how to stop thinking about those things. In these past few weeks, I should have written 3 blog posts. My goal is to write a new blog post every week. In the past the weeks I have written a big fat ZERO.

I had ideas. I should have written a post about my 5th and 6th months from my Nadine West subscription service. I should have ended the month of October with my monthly roundup of favorite finds for the month. I should have written my blog posts during my daughter’s gymnastics practices (which I am currently doing now). But you know what, I just couldn’t. And that’s okay. By the time I sat down during gymnastics (from running errands or a day full of work, or both) I was completely exhausted. I couldn’t pull out my computer. All I could do was sit and watch the gymnasts. No blog, no Facebook, just watching and letting my mind and my body take a little break.
In the last few weeks, while I’ve stayed on top of keeping the house somewhat picked up (thank the Lord for children getting older), there are plenty of things in house I wanted to get done that I just didn’t. I didn’t have the energy. I didn’t have the drive to force myself, energy or not. These past few weeks I’ve been so tired that I went to bed (like legit to sleep) earlier than usual. No extra last-minute jobs done before bed.

It’s Okay to Take a Break
And you know what? THAT. IS. OKAY! In fact, it’s more than okay. Sometimes it’s good for us. Mama, you need to take a break!
Maybe you feel like you don’t have the option to take a break. Maybe you still have infants and toddlers that provide you absolutely no break. Maybe your housework is so overwhelming you feel like you can’t give yourself a break. Maybe you have other responsibilities that cause you to run non-stop. But, I’m telling you. FIND A WAY! You can find a way to take a little break, you just have to find what works best for you and your family. And I’m not talking one trip to the spa.
For me, I needed those three weeks of no blog and earlier sleep. For you, it might be a date night out with your husband once a week for a month. I know some couples do this on the regular #marriagegoals. It might be leaving that pile of laundry on the couch (for the 5th night in a row) so you can catch your favorite show that you’re 6 seasons behind on. Maybe you need to take a break from social media for a month.

Yeah, you might have to plan
Yes, taking a break might take some planning. And I know, that sucks. How lame to have to plan a break. Shouldn’t it just happen? Well, that would be nice, but we all know that’s now how it usually goes. You might have to plan to get a babysitter. You might have to make a financial plan if what you need is to take some time off work. It might be big, it might be small. It might just be a shift of priorities. I still took my daughter to gymnastics, but I shifted my priorities during that time and gave myself a much needed break.
There’s a million other scenarios out there. I know I didn’t even come close to naming them all. I just wanted to give you some ideas, but you know you. You know what you need. You know what will work for you and your family. What you need sometimes mama is to take a break! If you’ve read this post, and you know you need a break, but you just don’t know how to make it happen, I would love to help you out. Send me a message, and we’ll brainstorm together until we come up with some ideas that will work for you. I love you mama, and you can do this thing called life!

I have no children yet and find myself extremely overwhelmed sometimes, so I can’t even imagine going through that and being a mom. The real superheroes! It helps me a lot to meditate!
Totally sharing this with my friends who are new moms
