Classic Chocolate Chess Pie

This southern traditional favorite may look simple, but it will leave your tastebuds filled with a rich, creamy chocolate goodness you won't regret.

Ingredients
  

Pie Crust
  • 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening Crisco butter flavored suggested
  • 4-5 Tbsp cold water
Pie Filling
  • 1 1/2 cups Sugar
  • 3 Tbsp Cocoa powder
  • 2 Eggs slightly beaten
  • 5 oz Evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Equipment

  • food processor (suggested)
  • pie dish

Method
 

Pie Crust
  1. Mix flour and salt in food processor.
  2. Add in shortening and blend until small crumbles. Or cut in shortening with a pastry cutter.
  3. Add water 1 Tbsp at a time, mixing until desired consistency. Pie crust should form a ball, but you don't want it to be too wet.
  4. Roll out on floured surface to 10"-12" round.
  5. Transfer pie crust to pie dish.
  6. Crimp edges as desired an poke several holes in the bottom of the crust with a fork.
Pie Filling
  1. In a bowl mix sugar and cocoa together.
  2. Add eggs, slightly beaten, and mix well.
  3. Stir in evaporated milk, melted butter, and vanilla, and mix well.
  4. Pour into unbaked pie crust.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes at 325 °
