I’m excited to be able to share with you today a guest blog post from two lovely ladies. After getting asked often, “how can I work from home?” these ladies decided to start sharing their knowledge with other moms looking to work from home and take care of their littles.
Ariel and Tianna are two WFHM’s (Work from Home Moms) who got started in the Virtual Assistant world almost a decade ago. They wanted to be able to stay home with their littles without sacrificing their career, and now they teach other mama’s who want to do the same!
So here is their post sharing “How Can I Work From Home?”
Hey Mama, if you’ve asked yourself “how can I work from home”, there are more options out there for you than what you think there are. If you’re like us, you felt like you had only two options to choose from when you became a mom.
1. Sacrifice your career/income and stay at home with your baby
2. Go back to work after maternity leave and lose the freedom in your motherhood
Nothing is wrong with either of these options. But for some mamas, happiness isn’t found in either/or. So some of those mamas decide to stay home with their littles and pursue network marketing, or anything and everything to keep themselves somewhat involved in the workforce.
OR, they go back to work and, whether or not they enjoyed their job before, they feel anxiety now leaving their baby, and find themselves suddenly unhappy in their position. Some even deal with PPD when forced back into the workforce just weeks after giving birth.
So what options do us mamas in these situations have? Is it supposed to feel that uncomfortable and we just deal?
Absolutely not.
There is another option out there and that’s what I want to chat with you about today. I’m sure you know there is a remote workforce out there (way more now than every before). Within that workforce is a door of opportunity that you might not know about.
Enter the Virtual Assistant World
It’s called the Virtual Assistant world, and it’s what changed our lives. This has led us to share the love and change so many other lives.
We’re Ariel + Tianna, the founders of Laptop + Littles. We work from home with our kids and have been able to scale our roles into full-blown Executive Assistant roles, Online Business Manager roles, and now Virtual Assistant Coaches. The Virtual Assistant role was a door to a whole new world of opportunities to work from home for us. And we believe it can also be for so many others.
But let’s back up and cover something. What exactly is a virtual assistant?
A Virtual Assistant can be a variety of things. But, the main concept is that a Virtual Assistant provides support to executives and business owners so they can reclaim their time. And, they do it virtually.
Which means you can:
work from home…
the park…
a coworking space (once those are a thing again!)…
an RV (there are a ton of VA’s in this role that travel constantly!)
As long as you can take your laptop with you and you have wifi, you can work wherever you want. You decide what your work looks like, who you work with, and how much you make as a Virtual Assistant.

Meet Ariel, mom of 4 and co-owner of Laptops + Littles
I didn’t start off my stay at home mom journey as a Virtual Assistant.
I graduated from Taylor University with a bachelors and a 6-month old baby with plans to be a stay at home mom while my husband worked.
Honestly, I didn’t even think there were any legit opportunities out there for stay at home moms! Other than MLM/Network Marketing… which I totally tried, but like many others, it wasn’t for me.
Then one day I searched “virtual assistant” online, not even realizing it was an actual thing. I was just hoping someone, somewhere out there would maybe hire a personal or executive assistant who worked remotely.
And of course, it was very much a real thing, and I felt like I had been living under a giant rock.
I applied to work for a company, called Zirtual, that hired Virtual Assistants. It was a shiny startup doing great things, and I was loving the culture, the team, the workflow. And, I felt like I’d really hit the jackpot by falling into the opportunity. Then that company closed their doors overnight in 2015. (If you search them, they were bought out so they are still around).
And mama, I was 7 months pregnant when that happened! It was terrifying, but it launched me into a career that works for me. It gave ME control of my career in a way an office job, MLM/Network Marketing, or even working from home for a company wouldn’t have, because I was calling the shots.
Meet Tianna, mom of 3 and co-owner of Laptops + Littles
When my oldest was born, I had to leave him with someone else at just 3 days old to return to my dental assistant program.
With my second, I had to leave her after just 6 weeks of maternity leave to return to my then Dental Assistant job.
Four months later, I decided to quit so I could stay home with them full-time. AND work.
I was introduced to the Virtual Assistant world by my now business partner, Ariel. Once I discovered the freedom the career gave me, I knew I could safely leave my Dental Assistant career and transition into this new role.
And more recently, I know I could rely on my source of income when I left my husband of 7 years. I became a mom at 19. Before I was a Virtual Assistant, before I was a wife, before I had any confidence in myself.
And now… I am a single mom, recently divorced, and completely carrying myself and my 3 littles on my income.
