What Moms Really Want For Mother’s Day

Gift Ideas Straight From Real Moms

I surveyed all wide variety of mothers and grandmother’s to find out exactly what they want for Mother’s Day this year. This is not your typical “good ideas” or “gifts from Amazon” post. These ideas for what moms really want for Mother’s Day come straight from the mouths of the moms. So listen carefully!

For so many, this Mother’s Day will be different than most years, especially for those still under stay-home orders. Which is many of us. But that doesn’t mean it still can’t be a special day for all the mothers out there. Whether you’re looking for ideas for your own mother, and grandmother, wife or friend, you’ll find what moms really want right here.

Top 4 Gift Ideas Moms Requested

1. To be with family

I’m sure it’s no surprise that this one comes in at the top of the list. Most desired by moms is the ability to be with their family for Mother’s Day this year. Whether it be with their mothers, or mothers with their children, and sisters with sisters. The desire to be together is a big one. While it may not be possible to physically be together this Mother’s Day, perhaps you can think up some creative ways for mom to connect with her family. A window or drive-by visit. Zoom or recorded videos from her loved ones. Be creative, and perhaps you can come up with something that will at least bring mom as smile and make her feel a little closer to family.

2. Flowers for the garden

This one ranked pretty high on the list as well, including from my own mother. And this is what I got for Mother’s Day this year! Yes, my gift came a little early, but it brings a smile to my face every time I look at the garden. Moms are wanting flowers and/or landscaping for outdoors. If you must be home all the time, you might as well make it look beautiful! Check out your local home improvements stores and nurseries.

3. Spa day

Whether that’s an actual day at the spa, or a fresh new hair cut, or perhaps a mani/pedi, moms are needing some pampering AND alone time! While we all know a day at the spa won’t happen right away, grab mom a gift certificate for her favorite salon or spa to use when things do open up. You’re giving moms what they want, and you’re supporting local businesses that are otherwise closed for the time being. However, I wouldn’t just leave it at that. Give mom the gift on Mother’s Day along with some peaceful time to herself. Dad, take the kids out for a walk and let mom have a little pampering at home with an uninterrupted bath. Time to paint her nails or read a book.

4. Books

And speaking of reading books, surprisingly or not, books were at the top of the list for ideas that moms would love for Mother’s Day this year. I know I personally have had a little extra time to read these days, and I’m loving it. A good book AND some time alone to read it. Dad, you might want to make that an extra long walk. 🙂 Here are a few book suggestions I personally love.

Honorable Mentions

Of course the two things that seem most impossible at the moment (being with family and alone time) aren’t the only gift ideas mentioned by moms. Here are a few other honorable mentions that moms really want for Mother’s Day.

1. Lounge Clothes

It might not be the best time to buy mom that new date night outfit. However, a super cute lounge outfit she could wear around the house all day? Yeah, you might just get a kiss for that one. Something she feels cute in while also super comfy is the way to go. If she prefers leggings or yoga pants, go for a quality brand that will last.

2. A Special Favor

I can guarantee there is hardly any mother out there that wouldn’t love to have her house cleaned and dinner cooked, and she didn’t have to do any of it! You don’t even have to ask about that one. Or, ask her and see if there are any favors she’d love to have done. Maybe something on that honey-do list she’s been wanting done for a long time.

3. A Hot Tub

Okay, to be honest, this one is in here specifically for my brother. THIS IS WHAT YOUR WIFE WANTS! But, I would venture to guess there are other mothers out there who would love a hot tub to relax in.. alone. 🙂 If you can’t go all out right now, consider one of these inflatable options.

4. Something from her favorite boutique

Jane is a favorite boutique shop of mine, but there are so many out there. Find out what her favorite is and buy her something special. Especially if she has a favorite local place to shop. Even if they’re closed right now, contact them and find out if they’d be willing to do a virtual tour of their shop for you and then mail it or do a curbside pickup. You’ll get something that mom loves, plus you’ll be supporting a local business that could use all the support they can get during this time.
